Clive graduated in 1969 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Wales, near Cardiff. He then moved down to the South Coast and, after 3 years practical experience in industry, qualified as a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Fuel Technologist. After a further 14 years working as a Senior Design Engineer for a large telecoms company, he decided on a change of career and joined the financial services industry in March 1986.
He has worked on all sides of the industry, both as a company representative and sales manager for several large insurance companies, and latterly as an IFA. Clive became an IFA in March 1998, which meant he was now able to offer his clients access to the whole marketplace. He was also able to offer his services to solicitors and accountants, and consequently has many clients who have been referred by these professional advisers.
As the rules on pensions, investments, mortgages and life cover become ever more complex, it is increasingly difficult to keep up with legislation and to maintain up to the minute expertise in all areas. The more effective IFAs now tend to specialise, and so Matthews IFA Ltd now uses a range of specialists, each with their own area of expertise.
Clive will hold an initial discussion with clients to determine which areas need advice and then call in the relevant specialists, but he will maintain overall control of the advice process. He only advises on family and business protection, and will therefore refer all other enquiries on to one of our appropriately qualified associates.
